So what is "New Age?"
New Age culture began as a popular movement in the 1960's, although its roots
can be traced back to the 19th century. Until recently it was seen by many as insignificant and eccentric. In recent
years however it has grown into a powerful influence on main stream societies throughout the world.
The phrase "New Age" is not always clearly understood. In practise, it is an
umbrella term that covers a wide range of interests and activities, with a defined set of unifying principles. Its primary
aim is the pursuit of health and harmony in an holistic way, stressing the equal importance of Mind, Body and Spirit. Within
this, it embraces a wide range of therapies and self-help techniques and places strong emphasis on bringing spiritual awareness
and traditions into everyday life. On a broader scale, its approach involves concern for the environment, the future of the
human race and the planet.
